He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attended to him, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you ignore him. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
