The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 And when the earth has been extended 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, 7 will be easy, 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Verily he was among his people joyous. 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! 15 So I swear by the twilight glow 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And the moon when at the full, 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
