Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and the ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
