And when thy Lord called Moses, saying: Go unto the wrongdoing folk, 10 The people of Firon: Will they not guard (against evil)? 11 He said: my Lord! verily I fear they shall belie me. 12 My heart is constrained, my tongue falters, so delegate Aaron; 13 As for me, they hold the charge of a crime against me. I fear they will put me to death." 14 Said He, 'No indeed; but go, both of you, with Our signs, and We assuredly shall be with you, listening. 15 Go to Pharaoh and say, 'We are the messengers of the Lord of the worlds, 16 (Saying): Let the Children of Israel go with us. 17 The Pharaoh said, "Did we not bring you up in our home as an infant and did you not live with us for many years 18 and you did the deed which you did. You are certainly ungrateful." 19 He said: I did it then when I was mistaken. 20 Then I fled for fear of you. Then my Lord bestowed wisdom and authority on me and made me one of the Messengers. 21 That is a blessing thou reproachest me with, having enslaved the Children of Israel.' 22 Pharaoh said: And what is the Lord of the Worlds? 23 Musa (Moses) said: "Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, if you seek to be convinced with certainty." 24 Said he to those about him, 'Do you not hear?' 25 (Moses) said: "Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers from the beginning!" 26 [Pharaoh] exclaimed: "Behold, [this] your 'apostle' who [claims that he] has been sent unto you is mad indeed! 27 [Moses] said, "Lord of the east and the west and that between them, if you were to reason." 28 Pharaoh said: "If you take any god other than me, I will certainly make you one of those (who are rotting) in prison." 29 He said, 'What, even though I brought thee something so manifest?' 30 [Pharaoh] said, "Then bring it, if you should be of the truthful." 31 Thereupon [Moses] threw down his staff - and lo! it was a serpent, plainly visible; 32 and he drew forth his hand - and lo! it appeared [shining] white to the beholders. 33
