Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
