It is Allah that takes the souls (of men) at death; and those that die not (He takes) during their sleep: those on whom He has passed the decree of death, He keeps back (from returning to life), but the rest He sends (to their bodies) for a term appointed verily in this are Signs for those who reflect. 42 And yet, they choose [to worship,] side by side with God, [imaginary] intercessors!" Say: "Why - even though they have no power over anything, and no understanding?" 43 Say: "God's is the intercession entirely; His is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth; then to Him you will return." 44 And when Allah alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the hereafter shrink, and when those besides Him are mentioned, lo! they are joyful. 45 Say: "O God, the originator of the heavens and the earth, the knower of the unknown and the known, You alone will judge between Your creatures for things they differed about." 46 Even if the wrong-doers had all that there is on earth, and as much more, (in vain) would they offer it for ransom from the pain of the Penalty on the Day of Judgment: but something will confront them from Allah, which they could never have counted upon! 47 and the evils of their earnings will appear to them, and that which they mocked at will encompass them. 48 And when adversity touches man, he calls upon Us; then when We bestow on him a favor from Us, he says, "I have only been given it because of [my] knowledge." Rather, it is a trial, but most of them do not know. 49 Thus did the (generations) before them say! But all that they did was of no profit to them. 50 for all the evil deeds that they had wrought fell [back] upon them. And [the same will happen to] people of the present time who are bent on wrongdoing: all the evil deeds that they have ever wrought will fall [back] upon them, and never will they be able to elude [God]! 51 Do they not know that Allah enlarges and straitens the provision of whomsoever He pleases? Therein are Signs for those that believe. 52
