Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A throng of the ancients 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
