The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he beheld, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
