The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 Living therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
