The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Byzantians have been overcome. 2 In a land close by; but they, (even) after (this) defeat of theirs, will soon be victorious- 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. On that day the believers too will have cause to rejoice, 4 In the help of God. He helps whom He will; He is all-mighty, ever-merciful. 5 The promise of Allah! Allah does not fail His promise, yet most people do not know. 6 They know an outward part of this life, but of the Everlasting Life they are inattentive. 7 Do they not think deeply (in their ownselves) about themselves (how Allah created them from nothing, and similarly He will resurrect them)? Allah has created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and for an appointed term. And indeed many of mankind deny the Meeting with their Lord. [See Tafsir At-Tabari, Part 21, Page 24]. 8 Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls. 9 Evil was the end of those evil-doers, for they gave the lie to Allah's Signs and scoffed at them. 10
