The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 purify your garments; 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked around, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
