Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
