Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 So enter among My servants, 29 And enter into My garden. 30
