Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha'. Mim. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
