The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 in an exposed parchment 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
