The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 and made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
