The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a return for the insolent, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
