Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 labouring, weary, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In a high Garden 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 Goblets set, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
