The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
