The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and his brightness, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
