In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
