The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
