And they ask you about Dhul-Qarnain. Say: "I shall recite to you something of his story." 83 We established him in the land, and We gave him a way to everything; 84 So he followed a way. 85 Until when he reached the place where the sun set, he found it going down into a black sea, and found by it a people. We said: O Zulqarnain! either give them a chastisement or do them a benefit. 86 He said: "Whoever doth wrong, him shall we punish; then shall he be sent back to his Lord; and He will punish him with a punishment unheard-of (before). 87 “And regarding one who believed and did good deeds – so his reward is goodness; and we shall soon give him an easy command.” 88 Then followed he (another) way, 89 Until, when he came to the rising place of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We (Allah) had provided no shelter against the sun. 90 Thus. And We had encompassed [all] that he had in knowledge. 91 And once again he chose the right means [to achieve a right end]. 92 until when he reached a place between the two mountains, he found beside the mountains a people who scarcely understood anything. 93 They said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?" 94 He said, 'That wherein my Lord has established me is better; so aid me forcefully, and I will set up a rampart between you and between them. 95 Bring me ingots of iron!" Then, after he had [piled up the iron and] filled the gap between the two mountain-sides, he said: "[Light a fire and] ply your bellows!" At length, when he had made it [glow like] fire, he commanded: "Bring me molten copper which I may pour upon it." 96 Thus were they made powerless to scale it or to dig through it. 97 He said: This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the promise of my Lord comes to pass He will make it level with the ground, and the promise of my Lord is ever true. 98 ۞ We shall leave them on that day surging like waves pressing one against the other, and the trumpet blast will be sounded, when We shall gather them all together. 99 On that day we shall present hell to the disbelievers, plain to view, 100 The ones whose eyes were covered from My remembrance, and who could not bear to hear Truth. 101
