The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains will be moved they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 It will be a place of return 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
