He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 You pay full attention, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
