Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions ranged 15 And linen spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
