۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 when he said to his father and his people, 'What are these statues unto which you are cleaving?' 52 They said: we found our fathers the worshippers thereof. 53 He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 He said, 'Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who originated them, and I am one of those that bear witness thereunto. 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness' 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He answered: "Nay, it was this one, the biggest of them, that did it: but ask them [yourselves] - provided they can speak!" 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
