[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to all [Our] warnings; 23 they said, "Are we to follow a man from amongst ourselves? We would surely then fall into error and madness. 24 Has the Reminder been cast upon him alone among us? Nay, rather he is an impudent liar.' 25 'They shall surely know tomorrow who is the impudent liar. 26 We are sending the she-camel to them to test them. So watch them and be patient. 27 And let them know that the water [of their wells] is to be divided between them, with each share of water equitably apportioned." 28 But they called their companion who took hold of her and hamstrung her. 29 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 30 Surely We sent upon them a single cry, so they were like the dry fragments of trees which the maker of an enclosure collects. 31 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 32 The people of Lot rejected Our warning. 33 Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night, 34 As a favour from Us. Thus We recompense him who giveth thanks. 35 And certainly he warned them of Our violent seizure, but they obstinately disputed the warning. 36 And they indeed sought to shame his guest (by asking to commit sodomy with them). So We blinded their eyes, "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 37 And verily, an abiding torment seized them early in the morning. 38 So taste My punishment and warning. 39 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 40
