a large group of the earlier people 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 They were endowed with good things 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
