The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 and made the night a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 The rebels' abode, 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
