Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
God the Almighty always says the truth.
