AND, INDEED, We have created man out of sounding clay, out of dark-slime transmuted 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 And (remember) when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am creating a mortal out of potter's clay of black mud altered, 28 "So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him." 29 Thereupon the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together, 30 Except Iblees, he refused to be with those who prostrated. 31 He said: 'iblis, what is the matter with you, that you do you not prostrate yourself' 32 "How could I bow," said he, "before a mortal whom You created from fermented clay dried tingling hard?" 33 (Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed. 34 and the curse shall be on you till the Day of Judgement!" 35 He said: My Lord! then respite me till the time when they are raised. 36 Said Allah, “You are of those given respite.” 37 “Till the Day of a well-known time.” 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 excepting those Thy servants among them that are devoted. 40 Said He: "This is, with Me, a straight way: 41 Surely, you shall have no power over My true servants, except those misguided ones who choose to follow you. 42 Gehenna (Hell) will be the promise for all of them. 43 "It (Hell) has seven gates, for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned. 44
