The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
