Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. 1 This is the remembrance of the mercy of your Lord upon His bondman Zakaria. 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 And said: "O my Lord, my bones decay, my head is white and hoary, yet in calling You, O Lord, I have never been deprived. 4 “And I fear my relatives after me and my wife is barren therefore bestow upon me from Yourself one who will take up my work.” 5 Who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing [to You]." 6 O Zakariyya! verily We give thee the glad tidings of a boy: his name shall be Yahya; We have not afore-time made his namesake. 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age." 8 Answered [the angel]: "Thus it is; [but] thy Sustainer says, 'This is easy for Me - even as I have created thee aforetime out of nothing'". 9 Zechariah said: "Lord, grant me a Sign." Said He: "Your Sign is that you shall not be able to speak to people for three nights, though you will be otherwise sound." 10 So Zakariya came out to his people from him chamber: He told them by signs to celebrate Allah's praises in the morning and in the evening. 11 [Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy 12 And compassion from Ourselves, and chastity; and he was extremely pious. 13 And kind to his parents, neither arrogant nor disobedient. 14 Peace be upon him on the day he was born and the day he dies, and on him the day when he is raised up alive. 15
