The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
