The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 arise, and warn! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
