He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 olives, dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
