The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
