He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And he feareth 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble, pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
