He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
