Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
