The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 arise and give warning! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 And pollution shun. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
