He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And hath fear, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
