Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
