They had only to wait for the single inevitable blast. 15 And they say, "Our Lord, hasten for us our share [of the punishment] before the Day of Account" 16 Bear patiently what they say, and remember Our servant Dawood, the possessor of power; surely he was frequent in returning (to Allah). 17 We made the mountains join him in glorifying Us at sunset and sunrise; 18 and the birds, too, in flocks, all turned to Him. 19 We strengthened his kingdom, giving him wisdom and the power of sound Judgment. 20 ۞ And did the news of the two disputants reach you? When they scaled over the wall into Dawud’s mosque. 21 As they came upon David -- and he was frightened of them -- they said: “Be not afraid. We are just two litigants: one of us has committed excess against the other. So judge rightly between us, and be not unjust; and guide us to the Right Way. 22 Indeed this, my brother, has ninety-nine ewes, and I have one ewe; so he said, 'Entrust her to me,' and he overpowered me in speech." 23 [Dawud (David)] said (immediately without listening to the opponent): "He has wronged you in demanding your ewe in addition to his ewes. And, verily, many partners oppress one another, except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and they are few." And Dawud (David) guessed that We have tried him and he sought Forgiveness of his Lord, and he fell down prostrate and turned (to Allah) in repentance. ۩ 24 So We forgave him that; and indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return. 25 We said, "David, We have given you mastery over the land. Judge fairly between people. Do not follow your desires, lest they divert you from God's path: those who wander from His path will have a severe punishment, because they ignore the Day of Reckoning." 26
