A crowd of earlier generations 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
