Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 led rebellious lives, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
