The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra; these are verses of the Book and the bright Qur’an. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 No nation can outstrip its term, nor do they put it back. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?" 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 they would still have said: "Surely our eyes have been dazzled; rather, we have been enchanted." 15
