The dwellers in the wood (of Midian) denied the messengers (of Allah), 176 when their brother Shu'ayb said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 177 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 178 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 179 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 180 ۞ Give full measure and do not be of those who cause loss. 181 "And weigh with the true and straight balance. 182 and do not deprive people of what is rightfully theirs; and do not act wickedly on earth by spreading corruption, 183 And keep your duty unto Him Who created you and the generations of the men of old. 184 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 185 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; indeed, we think that thou art one of the liars. 186 "Now cause a piece of the sky to fall on us, if thou art truthful!" 187 Answered [Shu'ayb]: "My Sustainer knows fully well what you are doing." 188 But they rejected him. Then the punishment of a day of overshadowing gloom seized them, and that was the Penalty of a Great Day. 189 Surely, in this is indeed a sign; but most of them would not believe: 190 your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 191
