The Romans (Al-Room)
60 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq) before The Spider (Al-Ankaboot)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated. 2 in a nearby land. They will reverse their defeat with a victory 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. And on that day will the believers [too, have cause to] rejoice 4 In Allah's help to victory. He helpeth to victory whom He will. He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 The promise of Allah! Allah does not fail His promise, yet most people do not know. 6 They know what is apparent of the worldly life, but they, of the Hereafter, are unaware. 7 Have they never thought to themselves that Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and all that is between except with truth, and for a stated term? Yet most people disbelieve that they will ever meet their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled on the earth and seen how the others before them had met their end? They were far more powerful than them, furrowed the earth and colonised it far more than they; and their apostles came to them with visible signs. It was surely not for God to wrong them, they wronged themselves. 9 The end of the evil-doers was terrible, for they had rejected the revelations of God and mocked them. 10
